Everyone has a story to tell about the first home they can remember. But few have a story quite like Godfrey Mahler's.
Mahler's earliest boyhood home was the light keeper's quarters adjacent to the Fire Island Lighthouse, where he lived for the first four years of his life. Mahler's father, Gottfried, was lighthouse keeper from 1948 to 1954.
Mahler, 62, will host a slideshow of photos taken by his father during his years as light keeper and discuss life in the iconic structure and Long Island landmark at Sachem Public Library Monday at 7 p.m.
The event is free. For more information, call 631-588-5024 or go to sachemlibrary.org.
