Tip: Ace the interview with Job Corps tips
It's the high before the hire: After
sending out hundreds of resumés, you receive a letter from a prospective employer inviting you to a job interview. But many boomers and seniors haven't been on an interview in years, perhaps even decades. Here's some tips from Job Corps, a unit of the U.S. Labor Department.
Minimize I: Try to keep the words "I" and "me" to a minimum. Employers are looking for team players, so too many uses of "I" and "me" may be a turnoff.
Maximize eye: Job Corps says not making eye contact "is a major interview no-no." Not looking directly at your interviewer could make it seem like you have something to hide.
Passion play: Be enthusiastic about your past jobs, the skills you acquired and how they will transfer to the new workplace.
