Tip: For diabetics, food for thought
When it comes to eating, it's easy to be bad during the holidays. For many, the extra pounds are rationalized into a New Year's resolution to lose weight. But for those with diabetes, holiday temptations can be dangerous.
Here are some tips for diabetics from the National Institutes of Health:
If you're going to a party, have a healthy snack first to avoid overeating.
At a buffet, steer clear of ham coated with sugary glaze and turkey covered in gravy. Instead, fill your plate with lean meats and vegetables.
Have no more than one alcoholic beverage, and don't imbibe before eating.
Beware of prepared foods such as deli meats because they often are high in sodium.
