Tip: How to prepare a generation sandwich
They are called the sandwich generation: adults who balance the never-ending anxiety they feel about their children while worrying about their aging parents.
A free booklet from Melville elder-law firm Tully & Winkelman is aimed at helping these adults find some direction and answers to at least half of these concerns. "How to Plan for Aging Parents 2012" has information on recent changes in Medicare and updates the rising costs of nursing home and long-term care on Long Island and how to financially prepare for these expenses. There also is a section on Medicaid that discusses potential asset recovery issues, a major concern for surviving spouses and their children.
