Tip: Keeping older workers safe
Older workers are the fastest-growing segment of the workforce. Currently, workers 55 and older make up 19 percent of the workforce, and that is expected to grow to 25 percent by the end of the decade. In a new report, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention calls on employees and employers to be more vigilant to help "stem the rising tide of injuries among older workers."
According to the CDC report, most injuries sustained by older workers are caused by falls, which increase steadily with age. The CDC says employers should examine their workplaces for tripping hazards and, if possible, install nonslip floors. Employees should make sure their work area is clear of clutter, especially on the floor.
