Are you trying to balance a healthy lifestyle without giving up the foods you love? You have a lot on your plate -- maybe too much.
The government's recently updated dietary guidelines actually leave room for the occasional night of overindulging, with the keyword being "occasional." The goal is to eat healthy "over time," which means a night of splurging should always be tempered by a week of sound food choices.
To make it easier for older folks to eat and enjoy, the government is offering the free publication "What's on Your Plate? Smart Food Choices for Healthy Aging." The booklet is available for download at 1.usa.gov/eating choices. You can also order a free printed copy by calling 800-222-2225.
