With vacation time approaching, you may be getting ready for an airplane ride. But if you're not careful, you could come home with an aching back or stiff neck. The American Chiropractic Association offers these tips:

When lifting bags into the overhead compartment, stand directly facing it so your spine is not rotated. Be careful not to turn or twist your head and neck in the process.

While seated, vary your position occasionally to improve circulation. Prop your legs up on a book or a bag under your seat.

When putting belongings under your seat, sit down first, and, using your hands and feet, gently guide your bags under the seat.

Adjust the air vents so it doesn't blow directly on you because the draft can increase tension in your neck and shoulder muscles.
