Tip: Superfoods that contribute to health
Diabetics know they have to watch what they eat. But even those who do not have the chronic disease can pump up their bodies by eating healthy. Here are 10 "superfoods" everyone should have in their diets, according to the American Diabetes Association.
Beans: High in fiber, magnesium and potassium.
Dark green leafy vegetables: Low in calories and loaded with nutrition.
Citrus fruits: Lots of vitamin C and fiber.
Sweet potatoes: Better for diabetics because they are low glycemic compared to white potatoes.
Berries: Blueberries, especially, pack a big antioxidant punch.
Tomatoes: Loaded with nutrients, and the lycopene is a proven health boost.
Fish: Stick with those high in omega-3 fatty acids, such as salmon and tuna.
Whole grains: Think oatmeal, barley and whole wheat, but stay away from foods with processed grains such as white bread.
Nuts: Many are loaded with healthy omega-3 fats.
Fat-free milk: Get your calcium and vitamin D without the cholesterol.
