A warning to women: Don't let your job be something to die for.

Researchers at Harvard Medical School have found that women with highly stressful jobs face a 40 percent higher risk of cardiovascular disease. The study defined high-stress jobs as ones where the woman felt she had little creativity or power to make decisions, despite being expected to perform many tasks quickly. Stress often was amped up because women also have several nonworkplace tasks, including caring for children and aging relatives.

The current issue of Harvard Women's Health Watch offers these tips to reduce job-related stress:

Stop checking work-related e-mails when you leave work

Forge relationships with co-workers and make time for friends and family

Exercise regularly

Use relaxation techniques such as meditation and deep breathing

Get help from a mental-health professional if you feel overwhelmed
