The annual open enrollment period for most Medicare plans ended Dec. 7, but there is still one more enrollment period that is just about to begin. Actually, it’s an unenrollment period.

From Jan. 1 to Feb. 14, anyone enrolled in Medicare Advantage can drop the plan and return to original Medicare. Be aware, this is the only move you can make: You cannot, for example, move from one Advantage plan to a different Advantage plan.

If the Medicare Advantage plan you are dropping also covers prescription drugs, you will have the option of joining a Medicare Part D drug plan during the Jan. 1 to Feb. 14 period.

If you want to unenroll, you must contact the company that runs your Medicare Advantage plan.
