Here's some advice on how to lower your blood pressure and cholesterol: Buy a pedometer and start walking.
New research shows that boomers and seniors who participated in a study by Indiana University reduced their time sitting and increased their time doing physical activities when they had access to a pedometer. The study also shows they lost weight during the 12-week program. Pedometers are widely available at local retailers such as Wal-Mart, Target and Sports Authority, with most models costing less than $30.
And to get all the health benefits, you may not even have to break a sweat. Another study from the American Heart Association found that walking is just as effective as running in lowering your risk of hypertension, high cholesterol and diabetes.
