Though her mother lived to 88 and had great skin, Lori Orston, 59 of North Hills, doesn't rely on good genes alone to stay younger looking. "I don't sit in the sun anymore," she says. "I did it when I was a teenager. I haven't sat in the sun since I was in my 20s."
After college, she moved to Los Angeles and began shopping at health food stores. She also stopped consuming foods containing preservatives or chemicals. Even today, "I eat all natural," says Orston, who is divorced and teaches special ed in Queens. She uses natural soaps from Whole Foods and varies her skin care routine -- enjoying facials and peels, as needed.
Philosophy brand sunscreen works for her, along with Dr. Dennis Gross Hydra-Pure Oil Free moisture cream. Other favorites include Peter Thomas Roth Anti-Aging Retinol Fusion PM and Shiseido eye cream. Orston says a website called paulaschoice.com has helped her find the best options.
While the products Orston uses may be considered pricey by some, experts say there are many effective skin care products that are less costly.
