If you have grandkids or other young family members who love video games, you can give them a peek into how some boomers and seniors whiled away the time decades ago. Instead of virtual worlds, they immersed themselves in real, albeit miniature, worlds.
In what has become a post-Thanksgiving tradition, the St. James Model Railroad Club opens its doors for three days for public viewing of its elaborate and constantly expanding layout. Lionel freight and passenger trains chug along on a 38-foot by 48-foot layout that features illuminated towns, parks and structures.
The open house is Friday, Dec. 4, 6-9 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 5, 11a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 6, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Admission is $2 for adults and 50 cents for children 17 and younger.
The club is in the Mills Pond House on Route 25A. For more information, call 516-263-9607.
