A division of Hauppauge-based defense and industrial electronics company Orbit International Corp. has a new $1.7-million aircraft parts order from the U.S. Navy.

The order from Orbit's Behlman Electronics Inc. division is for a commercial off-the-shelf, or COTS, power supply. The Behlman division is also based in Hauppauge.

The part, which distributes electrical power in a surveillance system, will be installed in Navy aircraft deployed on anti-submarine and anti-ship defense duty.

Deliveries under the contract are expected to start at the end of the year and continue through 2011. The order represents the final optional purchase under a five-part contract originally negotiated in 2006, Orbit said.

"At the customer's request, Behlman has quoted a follow-on multiyear order for the same program, which could lead to continuous production equal to this current order on an annual basis through the year 2016," Orbit said in a news release.
