Contested elections will be held Tuesday in 15 villages on the Island, 13 of them in Hempstead and North Hempstead towns. In other villages with elections Tuesday, candidates are running without opposition on the ballot. The majority of the remaining villages will hold their elections in June.

Poll opening times vary by village but polls everywhere close at 9 p.m.

The villages with contested elections Tuesday are: Amityville (Town of Babylon); Bellerose, East Rockaway, Freeport, Garden City, Hempstead, Malverne, Stewart Manor and Valley Stream (all Town of Hempstead); East Hills, East Williston, Mineola, Roslyn Estates and Williston Park (Town of North Hempstead); and Greenport (Town of Southold). Baxter Estates has a contested write-in election for mayor and two trustees; no candidate filed the necessary paperwork on time.
