2 boaters rescued in Great South Bay
Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau officers rescued two boaters in the Great South Bay after their engine lost power Friday afternoon.
The boaters were about a half mile north of Fire Island Pines when they called authorities at 1:20 p.m. seeking help as high winds rocked the 38-foot lobster vessel boat back and forth, bringing on 5-foot waves.
Officers used a line to tow the boat 3 miles to Brown's River.
The captain of the boat was Ramy Latif, 37, of Wantagh, officers said. Police didn't identity the second person aboard the boat. Neither person was injured.
