Two officers and a suspect were injured during what police said was a short pursuit in North Bellport early Tuesday after the man being chased crashed a car into one of the police cars, and the other officer crashed trying to avoid the collision, police said.

Police have not released the name of the suspect. They said charges were pending.

The officers were not seriously injured, Suffolk County police said. They were taken to Stony Brook University Medical Center for treatment. The suspect was at Brookhaven Hospital Medical Center.

Police said the officers tried to stop the suspect on Michigan Avenue in North Bellport about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, although the police report did not specify why.

Officers said the suspect refused to pull over and drove off with a marked police unit in pursuit.

Near the end of the pursuit, on Bellport Avenue, the suspect swerved into one of the police cars, causing a crash and injuring the officer.

Police said the second officer was injured when he crashed into a parked car while attempting to avoid the collision.

Police said there was an ongoing investigation.
