An East Setauket eighth-grader won the 2015 regional spelling bee at Hofstra University. Officials said this year's bee was one of the most competitive, with the finals lasting almost three hours.

The participants — fourth- to eighth-graders — hailed from among 118 campuses on Long Island. Each has won a bee at their local school.
