Accused mob boss makes plea agreement

An alleged Bonanno crime family leader from Deer Park faces up to 22 years in prison after pleading guilty to an extortion conspiracy in federal court in Brooklyn Tuesday.

Nicholas "Nicky Mouth" Santora, 70, an alleged captain and one-time acting Bonanno underboss, also admitted to violating his conditions of supervised release on a prior racketeering sentence by associating with other accused mob figures on a list of prohibited contacts.

Santora, indicted along with other Bonanno figures in January, admitted to conspiring to extort two men by "implied threats," but hesitated to identify the mob figures he associated with until U.S. District Judge Carol Amon said she wouldn't accept the plea unless he did so.

Santora named one.

"He was my daughter's godfather," he told the judge. "But he was on the list."

Santora's criminal career dates back to the 1960s, according to court filings, with a long list of arrests and convictions involving theft, gambling and resisting arrest.

His plea agreement calls for an expected prison term of 30 months or less under federal sentencing guidelines.
