Albany watch: Top court to decide big cases

New York's top court wraps up its 2014-15 session this week with some high-profile cases expected to be decided.

One is the appeal of Mark Garrett, a Wyandanch man convicted of murdering a 13-year-old pregnant girl in 1998.

Another is the attempt by two central New York towns to impose local zoning ordinances to ban a natural gas drilling technique known as hydraulic fracturing, or "fracking."

An Albany County case tests whether "cyberbullying" laws unconstitutionally restrict free speech. The court also weighs an appeal by John F. Haggerty Jr., a Republican political operative convicted of bilking hundreds of thousands of dollars from Michael Bloomberg's 2009 re-election campaign.
