A Bay Shore woman was killed after being struck by a vehicle on Third Avenue in Brentwood early Sunday morning, Suffolk police said.
Shortly after 1 a.m., Ileana Cabrera, 29, was walking in the eastbound lane of Third Avenue, near its intersection with Second Street, when she was hit by a 2009 Nissan, according to a police news release.
Cabrera was taken to Bay Shore’s South Shore University Hospital where she was pronounced dead, police said.
The driver of the Nissan, a 26-year-old Bay Shore man, was uninjured. His car was "impounded for a safety check," according to the news release.
A police spokesman could not specify what caused the crash or whether Cabrera was in a crosswalk when she was hit.
Police are investigating the incident.
