Hunker down, make some hot chocolate and don't go outside this weekend - really low temperatures are on the way.

Sunday's low will be a mere 5 to 10 degrees, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Matt Scalora.

"We expect the coldest temperature of the season to come in the next few nights," Scalora said.

All weekend, high temperatures will reach only into the 20s, he said.

The relatively light dusting of snow Friday, when about 3.3 inches of snow fell on Islip, added to the already impressive snowfall totals this season.

A month into winter and snowfall totals already have surpassed average snowfall for the entire season, Scalora said. As of Thursday, Islip has seen 32.1 inches of snow this winter, compared with the average seasonal total of 25.3 inches.

And snow is back in the forecast next week, with a 50 percent chance on Tuesday night and Wednesday.
