An elderly couple from Deer Park were struck by a car Friday afternoon while they were walking in a Bay Shore store's parking lot, police said.

Elvira Devivo, 76, of West 10th St., was hospitalized in critical condition with head injuries at Southside Hospital in Bay Shore. Her husband, Vincent Devivo, 82, was treated at the same hospital for minor injuries, Suffolk police said.

Det. Sgt. Tony LaVista said the couple had been shopping and were walking in a parking lot next to the Target store, 838 Sunrise Hwy., Bay Shore, at 2:45 p.m. when the incident occurred.

Terrence McGowan, 69, of North Babylon, was driving a Toyota FJ Cruiser south in the lot, police said, when he attempted to make a left turn and struck the couple, LaVista said.

No police charges were filed Friday, investigators said.

Third Squad detectives were investigating the incident and asked that anyone with information call 631-854-8352 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
