Long Islanders can expect more wind and cold this weekend - and perhaps even a dusting of snow on Saturday night.

The direction of the stiff breezes that created windchill temperatures as low as 3 degrees on Friday are going to change slightly, the National Weather Service at Upton said, but the results will be the same.

Westerly winds blowing across most of Long Island Friday - in some areas as high as 26 mph - will be replaced by colder north winds Friday night.

So even though weekend winds will likely be slightly calmer, between 10 mph and 16 mph, temperatures on Saturday and Sunday will still feel around zero.

Friday night's low is expected to be around 12 degrees at Islip, the weather service said.

Saturday's temperature is a high of 27 with a nighttime low of 13. Sunday will be around 32, with a low of around 20 at night.

The service said there is a 20 percent chance of light snow before midnight Saturday.

The start of next week will likely be warmer. Monday's forecast is for sunny 36-degree temperatures.

Although snow may fall Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, temperatures will range from the high 20s to the high 30s for most of the week.
