North Hempstead Town board member Anna Kaplan has picked up the endorsement of the state chapter of the National Organization for Women in her Democratic primary bid for retiring Rep. Steve Israel’s 3rd District seat.

Patricia Pastor, co-president of NOW’s Nassau chapter, called Kaplan “a strong and passionate advocate” for women’s rights with a “deep commitment’ to advancing issues such as paid family leave, equal pay for women and protecting a woman’s right to choose.

WOMEN VOTE, the independent expenditure arm of EMILY’S List, also is spending a “high six-figure” amount on Kaplan and former Southampton Supervisor Anna Throne Holst, who is running in the 1st Congressional Democratic primary.

Kaplan is getting eight mail pieces done by the group, while Throne Holst is the recipient of a cable TV ad buy.
