Anna Kaplan says she has raised $445,000 for Congress bid
North Hempstead Town board member Anna Kaplan says she has raised $445,000 so far in her bid for retiring Democratic Rep. Steve Israel’s Third District seat.
Reginald Johnson, Kaplan’s spokesman, said Kaplan made a $100,000 personal loan to her campaign and collected $12,000 in other family contributions. The campaign has spent $100,000, Johnson said.
A spokesman also said $55,000 of Kaplan’s fundraising came from donors who already have given the maximum $2,700 for the primary. That money cannot be used until the general election campaign. That leaves Kaplan with $290,000 cash on hand for the primary.
Kaplan becomes the third Democratic contender to disclose her fundraising in advance of the April 15 Federal Election Commission disclosure deadline.
Former Nassau County Executive Thomas Suozzi disclosed he has raised $450,000, and has $320,000 on hand for the Democratic primary. Attorney Jonathan Clarke, of Jericho, says he has raised $800.
