Suffolk County Community College has filled a newly created deputy counsel job, according to a college spokesman.

Ashley Pope, who works at Guercio & Guercio law firm in Farmingdale, will begin her new $131,191-a-year job on March 13. She is a graduate of Barnard College and Fordham Law School.

Pope was chosen over Elaine Barraga, bureau chief of the county attorney’s general litigation bureau, who was among the finalists.

The county legislature’s Ways and Means Committee will vote Wednesday on a nepotism resolution for Barraga, who is the daughter of county Legis. Thomas Barraga (R-West Islip), to retroactively approve her promotions in the county attorney’s office as a principal assistant county attorney, a deputy bureau chief and bureau chief.

If approved in committee, the county legislature is expected to vote on the resolution on March 7.
