Sandy Berland, a leading lawyer for Suffolk Democrats, was named by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo late Friday as a Court of Claims judge.

Berland, of Dix Hills, will have a confirmation hearing before the State Senate Judiciary Committee Monday. The judgeship carries a 10-year term and pays $195,000 a year.

Berland’s wife, Susan Berland, is a Huntington Town Board member. She is running as the Democratic candidate for Suffolk County Legislature to replace term-limited Legis. Steve Stern (D-Dix Hills).
