Conservative Suffolk Sheriff Vincent DeMarco may be interviewing for a federal job in President Donald Tump’s administration, but he has scheduled a March 23 fundraiser for re-election in case the job does not pan out.

DeMarco’s $130-a-head fundraiser will be at Windows on the Lake in Lake Ronkonkoma.

John Jay LaValle, Suffolk Republican chairman, said the Trump administration has interviewed DeMarco. While LaValle would not disclose the position DeMarco is seeking, other sources say that the post is with the U.S. Marshal’s Service in New York City.

LaValle and Suffolk Democratic chairman Rich Schaffer have indicated their support for DeMarco for re-election. However, DeMarco could face a primary in his own party, where loyalists of ex-Suffolk Conservative chairman Edward Walsh are upset DeMarco help convict Walsh on federal corruption charges.

Town GOP chairmen also are concerned that Conservatives might withhold backing from their town slates if Republicans back DeMarco — hence, the push to move DeMarco out.
