Suffolk Legis. William Lindsay III listed an unusual expense in his most recent campaign finance report — a $109 ticket from the county’s red-light camera program.

But Lindsay (D-Bohemia), a strong proponent of the camera program, said the ticket wasn’t his and the money went to pay the fine for a constituent, who was disabled and had no money to pay.

The payment came to light among Lindsay’s expenses in his Jan. 15 campaign finance disclosure filed in Albany.

Lindsay said he intended to pay the fine from his personal funds. But he said his staff used a separate personal credit card Lindsay keeps so he can keep track of campaign expenses he incurs. When the campaign treasurer saw the fine on the credit card bill, he mistakenly included it in the report.

Lindsay said he will pay that part of the credit card bill with a personal check, not campaign funds. He also said he does not intend to pay any more fines for constituents.
