Early risers across Long Island on Sunday may need to grab a jacket or coat and be ready to remove the frost from their windows before heading out for a drive, but the rest of the day will be sunny as will most of the coming the week.

Jay Engle, a meteorologist with the National Weather Center in Upton, said there was a frost advisory issued for rural locations in northeast and southeast Suffolk County.

“Those are the areas that tend to have more of a frost formation,” Engle said. He said things will get better and better as the day goes on. “Any early morning fog will give way to sun.”

Engle’s forecast for the week continues with the high for Sunday reaching the low 50s and at night clear skies are expected with lows in the mid-30s.

The start of the workweek on Monday will be sunny with highs in the low to mid-50s, with the nighttime becoming mostly cloudy with lows in the mid-30s, Engle forecast.

Tuesday, he said, will be partly sunny with high temperatures reaching only into the mid- and upper 40s, then partly cloudy skies are predicted for nighttime when lows will drop into the mid-30s.

There’ll be lots of sun Wednesday, Engle predicts, when highs will reach the upper 40s and the chance of rain comes around midnight. Lows at night will be in the upper 30s.

The chance of rain continues until about 1 p.m. on Thursday, he said, when highs are forecast in the low 50s and lows at night will dip into the low 40s.

Lots of sun returns to greet the weekend Friday, when highs will warm up a bit to the mid 50s, Engle said.
