Forty-four drivers were arrested by Nassau police and another 45 by Suffolk police during a Labor Day weekend crackdown on intoxicated driving, police in both counties said Tuesday.

The results of Nassau’s STOP-DWI initiative — funded, in part, by a state grant — were announced Tuesday by Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano and acting Nassau County Police Commissioner Thomas C. Krumpter.

Nassau’s holiday crackdown enforcement began at 7 p.m. Friday and ran through 7 a.m. Tuesday.

In Suffolk, the crackdown numbers were for arrests made between 4 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Arrest numbers were not immediately available for enforcement by other agencies in the two counties.
