COMMACK / Cops: Deadly party at motel

A Brentwood man was stabbed to death early Saturday after an apparent birthday party turned into a melee at a Commack motel, Suffolk homicide detectives said.

Stanley Davis, 18, was pronounced dead at 6:45 a.m. at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, about 2 1/2 hours after officers from the Fourth Precinct responded to a 911 call at the Howard Johnson motel on Moreland Road.

Police found a fight in two rooms of the motel in which several people were stabbed. Det. Lt. Gerard Pelkofsky, commanding officer of the Homicide Squad, said many at the party told police they didn't see what happened or they weren't there when Davis was killed.

Police believe people rented two rooms for someone's 19th birthday party. Pelkofsky said at one point, there may have been 60 people crammed into one room before it spilled into the other. After 4 a.m., for some reason, a fight broke out.

"Some people were hit over the head with bottles," he said. One of them, Curtis Johnson, 21, of Brentwood, was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore for head injuries.

Police found empty beer and liquor bottles in the motel's courtyard, Pelkofsky said.

Jason Iglesias, 20, of 168 Timberline Dr., Brentwood, also was stabbed and was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip. His injuries were not life-threatening, and Pelkofsky said he was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct after he "went crazy" at the hospital.

Steven Bangs, 23, of 40 Bradley St., Brentwood, was charged with obstruction of governmental administration for refusing to comply with police attempts to get the fight under control.

KINGS PARK / Bank robbery suspect sought

Suffolk police are searching for a man they say robbed a Kings Park bank Saturday morning.

The suspect entered the Bank of America branch on St. Johnland Road at 9:17 a.m., approached several tellers and demanded money, according to police. After the tellers gave him cash from the drawers, he left and was last seen running west across St. Johnland Road, police said.
