Cops: Driver's license suspended 22 times
A Freeport man who crashed his BMW Wednesday on the Southern State Parkway in Baywood was driving even though his license had been suspended 22 times, State Police said.
Troopers were dispatched to a two-car accident about 9:30 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of the parkway, near the Sagtikos State Parkway. When they arrived at the scene the troopers ran license checks on both drivers and discovered Joe Reyes, 36, had previously had his license suspended 22 times.
Reyes was arrested on a felony charge of aggravated unlicensed operation of motor vehicle. His arraignment information at First District Court in Central Islip was not immediately available.
Baywood is a small community north of the Southern State Parkway between Deer Park and North Bay Shore.
