Nassau police arrested a Woodmere man Tuesday and charged him with fraudulently opening a life insurance policy for one of his clients without her consent.

Third Squad detectives said Sheldon M. Bressler, 61, of Allen Road, a Mass Mutual insurance agent based in Melville, committed forgery when he opened a term insurance policy for a client several months ago and then, without her consent, opened an additional whole life insurance policy in the 59-year-old woman's name.

Bressler reported to the Third Squad Tuesday and was arrested on two counts of second-degree forgery, two counts of first-degree identity theft and two counts of first-degree falsifying business records, police said.

Bressler was being held overnight Tuesday and is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in First District Court in Hempstead. His attorney could not be reached for comment.
