A Lake Ronkonkoma man high on prescription drugs crashed his Mazda into a Chevrolet on Sunrise Highway in Wantagh, then, in a fit of rage, smashed the Chevy's windows with a crowbar and tried to attack its driver, Nassau Police Officer Mike Toich said Tuesday.
Samuel Ekus, 30, is charged with misdemeanor counts of menacing, criminal mischief, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a dangerous weapon and DWI-drugs after the altercation at 2:15 p.m. He is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday morning at First District Court in Hempstead.
Toich said Ekus crashed his Mazda into a Chevrolet driven by a 20-year-old woman on Sunrise Highway near Morris Gate. After the crash, police said, he tried to pull the woman from her vehicle, but could not. He then took a crowbar from his Mazda and smashed her windows, in full view of passing motorists, police added.
Police found drugs believed to be Xanax in Ekus's vehicle, Toich said.
The Chevrolet's driver and a 28-year-old woman riding in Ekus' Mazda were taken to hospitals with minor injuries, Toich said.
