Multiple pedestrians were struck by a vehicle, with one of them reported to have serious injuries at Wantagh Avenue and Sunrise Highway in Wantagh. The Nassau County Police responded and transported the injured by ground . The driver of the car was not hurt and Sunrise Highway was shut for a period of time as the accident was investigated. Two women were injured early Sunday when they were hit by a car as they tried to cross Sunrise Highway in Wantagh, Nassau police said.

The women were crossing Sunrise Highway north near Wantagh Avenue about 1 a.m. when they were hit by a vehicle traveling west, police said.

Both women sustained head injuries and were taken to a hospital for treatment.

Police did not identify the women or the driver of the vehicle, and they said they did not suspect any criminality in the incident. The westbound lanes of Sunrise Highway were closed for about an hour for the police investigation.
