Cops seek woman in attempted bank heist
Police are seeking a woman who walked into a Bank of America branch in Hempstead on Monday, handed a demand note to a teller - then fled without taking a cent.
The attempted robbery occurred at 10:10 a.m. at the Bank of America branch on Main Street. Nassau County police said the woman, described as 5-foot-2 to 5-foot-4 and wearing a black winter jacket, a patterned scarf, jeans and a blue New York Yankees cap with a red bill, walked into the branch and handed the teller the note.
Police said the teller notified the other tellers of the robbery attempt - and said the would-be robber then suddenly fled the scene. There were seven employees and six customers in the branch at the time.
Police are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
