Erika Jackson, of Coram, charged with DWI after crashing into snowplow in Middle Island, police say

A Coram woman was seriously injured and then charged with drunken driving after crashing into a state Department of Transportation snowplow on Sunday in Middle Island, the Suffolk County Police Department said.
Erika Jackson, 25, of Coram, was driving west on Middle Country Road when her 2013 Chevrolet Malibu crossed into the eastbound lane, colliding with a state-owned snowplow truck at around 5:20 a.m. in front of Hannah Mission Korean Presbyterian Church of Long Island, police said.
Jackson was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. She was charged with driving while intoxicated and will be arraigned “at a later date,” police said.
The state Transportation Department snowplow driver, Victor Rivera, 42, of Mastic Beach, was tasken to NYU Langone in Patchogue for treatment of minor injuries, police said.
A DOT spokesperson declined to comment, citing the police investigation.
When Newsday arrived at the scene around 11 a.m., a bulldozer had pulled the snowplow out of a snow bank on the south side of the road. Jackson’s Chevrolet lay mangled in front of Middle Island Rental on the north side.
