Motorcyclist killed in crash with van in Hempstead, police say

A motorcyclist was killed Tuesday night in Hempstead after colliding with a cargo van at an intersection, Nassau police said.
The victim, whose identity was not immediately available, was headed north on Main Street at the time of the crash about 8:30 p.m., according to police. A 2001 Ford van heading east on Jackson Street collided with the motorcycle at the intersection with Main Street, police said.
The driver of the van was not hurt, police said, and remained at the scene.
Police said the motorcyclist was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead 9:57 p.m.
Nassau detectives are investigating the crash.
