A motorist in an SUV was killed after the vehicle was struck by a pickup truck headed the wrong way on the Sunken Meadow Parkway on Friday night in Commack, authorities said.

Police said the wrong-way crash occurred shortly before 7:30 p.m. on the northbound side of Sunken Meadow Parkway, north of Exit SM3. A driver in a 2008 Chevrolet Colorado pickup was traveling south in the northbound lanes when it struck the 2007 Mazda CX7 SUV, police said.

"The driver of the SUV died at the scene and the driver of the pickup truck was treated for serious injuries" at South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore, officials said.

Police on Saturday identified the SUV driver as Anthony Mariano, 44, of Kings Park. The pickup driver was identified as Joseph Norris, 38, of Babylon.

Norris remained in serious condition Saturday afternoon, police said.

The investigation was ongoing Saturday.

State police are urging anyone with information to call 631-756-3300.
