Suffolk police arrested and charged a 15-year-old student at Lindenhurst High School on Monday after he allegedly texted several threats to set off a bomb on the campus, authorities said.

The male student allegedly made the threats during the past month to detonate an explosive device and carry out other violence at the high school to injure staff and students, according to police.

School officials discovered the threats Monday and called police at 9:30 a.m. Police arrested the sophomore at 1:30 p.m. at the high school and charged him with misdemeanor aggravated making terroristic threats of mass harm. Police did not provide the identity of the teenager, who was released to family and will be arraigned at a later date at Central Islip family court.

Lindenhurst Superintendent Anthony Davidson said police discovered the text messages and later deemed the campus safe with no credible threat. Suffolk police were on campus Monday to investigate.

“We ask you to take this opportunity to speak with your children about the impact of their words and actions, as well as the importance of reporting concerning messages to you and/or school authorities should they ever receive them,” Davidson said in a statement to parents.
