17-year-olds rob 2 teens on Baldwin street, Nassau cops say

Two teenagers were caught by officers who saw one of them rob two pedestrians and hop into a waiting getaway vehicle in Baldwin, Nassau police said Friday.

Jeremy Durocher, 17, took keys and money from two teenagers, ages 16 and 17, in front of a Grand Avenue storefront about 9:40 p.m. Thursday, police said. The victims were not injured, police said.

It turned out that officers from the Nassau police criminal intelligence rapid response team saw the robbery and the suspect hop into a vehicle, police said.

The officers stopped the car a short distance away and arrested Durocher and the driver, Jackenson Smith, 17, police said.

Durocher and Smith, both of Baldwin, were arraigned Friday on charges of second-degree robbery. Bail for each was set at $2,000 bond or $1,000.

Smith, an incoming 12th grader at Baldwin High School, denies the allegation, and his family was trying to meet the bail demand, said attorney Kenneth Feraru of Mineola, appointed by the court for the arraignment.

“He said he didn’t know anything about this robbery,” he said.

Durocher was represented by Legal Aid Society, which has a policy of not commenting during the early stage of a case.
