Two of the three NYPD officers wounded Thursday night in two separate incidents were released from the hospital Friday, officials said.
To the applause of colleagues, Officers Michael Levay, 27, and Lukasz Kozicki, 32, left Lutheran Medical Center in wheelchairs.
The transit officers were making a plainclothes patrol on a Manhattan-bound N train when they asked a man for his identification after he appeared to be improperly moving between moving subway cars.
Police said Peter Jourdan, 37, of Manhattan, stood as if to comply and then pulled out a 9-mm handgun from his waistband and opened fire.
Both officers were wounded but Levay was able to return fire and killed Jourdan, investigators said.
The third officer, Juan Pichardo, was expected to be released Saturday from Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx.
Pichardo was off duty and working at his family's car dealership when two men, one armed with a handgun, entered the store to commit a robbery, police said.
Pichardo grabbed the gunman, who fired at the officer, wounding him in the right thigh. Despite his wounds, Pichardo disarmed the assailant, NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly said Thursday.
The Bryco .380 used against Pichardo was reported stolen from a car in Fayetteville, N.C., in 2008, according to police.
Four suspects from the Bronx and Westchester County were in custody in the Bronx shooting and charged with attempted murder, assault, robbery and criminal possession of a weapon, along with other charges, officials said.
