A driver and a pedestrian were killed Saturday afternoon in separate motor vehicle crashes on Long Island, police said.
In Uniondale, the driver of a 2009 Jeep Wrangler struck Cross Kim Young, 75, of Uniondale, as he was crossing Maple Avenue at Hempstead Boulevard about 3:20 p.m. Saturday, Nassau County police said.
The victim "suffered severe trauma" and was pronounced dead at a hospital, authorities said.
The driver, Cesar Manzo, 71, of Uniondale, did not stop, police said, but was later arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident.
Manzo pleaded not guilty at an arraignment Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead, according to court records. Bail was posted after being set at $20,000 cash, $50,000 insured bond or $100,000 partially secured surety bond, the records said.
Manzo's lawyer could not immediately be reached for comment.
Later Saturday in Coram, a woman driving west on Route 112 near County Road 83 in Coram just before 6 p.m. collided with a Jeep Wrangler, Suffolk County police said.
The woman's car then collided with two other vehicles, police said.
The woman, whom police did not identify, was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The driver of the Jeep suffered minor injuries, police said.
Police did not disclose whether any charges were issued. No further information was available.
