Two Nassau County men were arrested after New York state troopers found marijuana and a loaded handgun in their car during a traffic stop on Monday, police said.
Anthony S. Coleman, 26, of North Baldwin, and Jeff W. Saint-Gerard, 30, of Baldwin, were charged with criminal possession of a weapon and unlawful possession of marijuana.
Troopers from Troop L, based at Republic Airport, smelled the drug and made a search when they stopped the 2013 Dodge Charger at 2:08 a.m. on Hempstead Turnpike in Hempstead Town, State Police said in a news release.
Coleman was driving, police said. The loaded Taurus 9 mm handgun was found under Saint-Gerard’s seat.
The two were scheduled to be arraigned in Nassau County First District Court in Hempstead, but it was not clear when.
