Three men were shot, struck by blasts from a shotgun fired from inside a vehicle, as they stood on a street in Southampton Village on Monday evening, police said.

Now, Southampton Village police said they are searching for a suspect — or suspects — and are asking the public’s help.

The shooting took place on Hillcrest Avenue and was reported in a 911 call at 5:56 p.m., police said.

Det. Sgt. Herman Lamison, commanding officer of criminal investigations for the Southampton Village police, said three victims were taken to Southampton Hospital by private auto — and that one remained in intensive care, while a second victim was recovering from his injuries. The third victim was treated and later discharged, police said.

The shooting is being investigated by village police, with assistance from town police and State Police.

Police ask anyone with information to call village police at 631-283-0056. All calls will remain confidential.
