5 hurt when taxi smashes into NYC coffee shop
Five people had to be taken to the hospital after an accident between a taxi and another vehicle in the East Village sent the cab over a curb and into the front of a coffee shop.
Police said the cab was moving north on First Avenue around 1:30 a.m. yesterday when it collided with a westbound SUV on East Third Street.
After the impact, the cab jumped a pedestrian island and then a curb before coming to rest in The Bean coffee shop. Three pedestrians were hit. Two were in stable condition at Bellevue Hospital, while the third was in critical but stable condition with head, neck and hip injuries.
Police said the cabdriver was in stable condition with injuries to his neck and back. His passenger was in stable condition with a mouth injury. - AP
