Suffolk County police identity-theft detectives are investigating a report of a skimming device found on an ATM at a 7-Eleven in Smithtown, a police spokeswoman said.
The device — used to steal account numbers and customer information — was found at the convenience store at 221 W. Main St. early Friday afternoon, the spokeswoman said.
A man who answered the telephone at the store Saturday morning declined to comment.
Nassau County police said in February that officers were checking all ATMs at 7-Elevens in that county after two skimming devices were found, one in Levittown and the other in Seaford.
No arrests have been made in the Smithtown case, the Suffolk police spokeswoman said. No further information was available Saturday morning.
