A homeless teenager was arrested after robbing a 7-Eleven at knifepoint Wednesday night in Freeport, Nassau County police said.
No injuries were reported.
According to detectives, Daniel Soto, 17, “while armed with a large steak knife,” went into the Merrick Road store and demanded cash from the employee working the cash register.
Police said the male victim, 48, complied and handed Soto an undetermined amount of cash. The suspect then fled the scene on foot, police said.
A search conducted by Freeport and Nassau County police, including the Aviation Unit, found Soto in the woods near the southbound ramp of the Meadowbrook Parkway in Freeport and he was arrested without incident shortly after 11:40 p.m., police said.
Soto is charged with first-degree robbery and false personation. A police spokeswoman said Soto provided inaccurate information to police related to his identity.
Soto was arraigned Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead. He was held on bond of $100,000 or $50,000 cash, according to online court records.
